Career Edge Potential Hosts - The Private Sector Response

Canadian business leaders committed to making a significant contribution to youth employability developed Career Edge, a unique and innovative internship program. As a national, not-for-profit corporation, the program's goal is to enhance youth employability by providing valuable, career-related experience through internships within successful Canadian organizations.

Career Edge was launched in October 1996, and already has hundreds of organizations on board. Many charter members, including The Toronto-Dominion Bank, The Boston Consulting Group of Canada Limited, Noranda Inc., PanCanadian Petroleum Limited, Nortel and Bell Canada, provided significant time and resources through the early phases to ensure the program's success. Many other charter members donated their services and expertise along the way.

All Career Edge internships are designed to have four common elements -- employment experience, learning, coaching and networking. Combined, these elements bring the concept of the Career Edge internship to life, and serve to foster a mutually rewarding relationship between Interns and Host Organizations.

The Career Edge program is designed to be as simple and efficient as possible. Career Edge is the Interns' employer, with the sponsoring organizations, the "Host Organizations," hosting the Interns. Host Organizations recruit Interns for their organization through this Web site.

Career Edge is financed through a modest administrative fee per Intern paid by Host Organizations. There is no government funding involved.
